Everyone knows the most common vacation spots in the United States. Miami is a top destination for those looking for beaches and sunshine. New York is a one of the popular vacation spots in the world, and everyone has considered a vacation in San Francisco. For those who enjoy gambling, Las Vegas is the premier destination. Other options, however, may be worth considering. Here are three to consider.
1) Reno, Nevada Las Vegas is clearly the king of gambling cities. Another option in the state of Nevada, however, has plenty to offer as well. Reno has a smaller downtown but plenty of gambling options visitors. Reno offers the same casino games as Las Vegas without the throngs of tourists.
Those who visit in winter, however, will find something that Las Vegas cannot match: great mountain sports. The mountains around Lake Tahoe provide excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities. Many of the hotels in Reno have gambling facilities on-site and offer great vacation packages at a significant discount.
2) Minneapolis, Minnesota Medium-sized cities with advanced infrastructure and educated populations are some of the top vacation spots in the nation. Seattle, Washington and Denver, Colorado are considered top destinations. Another option, however, provides a similar experience at a lower cost. Minneapolis offers a vibrant downtown, a stunning skyline and a storied history.
Often considered part of “fly-over” country, Minneapolis has one of the nation’s top modern art museums in the Walker Art Center, beautiful bicycling and boating options and the second-highest number of theaters in the nation per capita. Families will want to take at least one trip to the Mall of America, which features an indoor theme park.
3) Tampa, Florida When in comes to Florida, Miami and Orlando get all the credit. Miami is known around the world as one of the top vacation spots, and Orlando’s Disney World is part of the reason why the city has more hotel rooms than any other in the United States. Another option, Tampa, offers a great experience without the large number of tourists.
With beautiful nearby beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, opportunities for sports such as stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) and a two-hour drive to Disney World, Tampa is a great but rarely considered option for those who want to spend their vacation in the sun.
Lesser-known vacation destinations, particular during popular vacation times, can lead to lower prices, better transportation options and the opportunity to experience a city that does not try to extract as much money out of tourists as possible. Families and couples can be assured that any of the three options above can provide a great experience.
