A corpse of a three-meter shark was found in port of the resort city of Andrath in Majorca, on Saturday, August 29th. Only a day before that another predator floated in just 100 meters from swimming tourists on the beaches near Barcelona. It seemed that Spanish beaches which until recently considered to be quite safe, have undergone an attack of blood-thirsty sea predators.
According to the opinion of a member of municipality Gabriel Pujshserver, the shark, whose corpse has been found in Andrath, belongs to the kind of sharks safe for the people. Possibly, it was caught by fishermen in their nets and then they threw it out of a board as meat of this kind of sharks is inedible. According to another version, the predator could get under the motor of one of tourists’ yachts which come into a popular port on Majorca.
Three beaches in Barcelona, including Ribes Ribes, Adarro and Sant Gervasi have been closed because of appearance of other sharks. Rescuers have noticed predator in time and managed to evacuate all swimming tourists on coast. Ecologists believe, that the shark will not terrorize the resting people too long, because such huge fishes seldom swim near beaches.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, on August, 30th, a 23-years old surfer passed away from an attack of a shark on South African coast, between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. Predator which attacked the young man, has bitten off his both legs. Bleeding surfer was taken out to coast by his friend, but the young man passed away in hospital, despite all efforts of doctors.
According to statistics, the attacks of sharks cause death of 30 up to 100 people annually. More often greater white sharks attack swimmers and divers. Scientists from Miami have found out, that sharks in many aspects are similar to serial murderers. They watch the chosen victim from a distance, stopping approximately in 100 meters from him/her. Such position helps predator to choose a victim, remaining invisible and also to develop greater speed and attack successfully.
Let’s remind, that in the beginning of June 2009 a French elderly female tourist was lost as a result of a shark attack in the Red sea, near to Marsá- Alayam . The 50-years old woman made immersing with an aqualung when she was attacked by a shark. Sharks often meet in Red sea, but they attack people very seldom. The last similar case has occurred in Sharm El Sheikh in 2004. At that time a scuba-diver has become a victim of an attack.
