We have already introduced you with the list of the most unsafe aircrafts in the world in the opinion of the BusinessWeek; now let’s take a look at the list of the safest aircrafts provided by the same edition.
We would like to remind you that the list was compiled on the bases of the data from Ascend London insurance consultancy; the planes were compared by the quantity of flying hours per one crash with a fatal outcome. The rating contained the models of planes, which are in operation all over the world in more than 100 units. Air crashes connected with terrorism were not considered.
1. Boeing 737 CFMI
One crash per: 4 836 900 flying hours
Years of production: 1984-2000
Planes in operation: 1796
The Boeing Corporation produced altogether 1988 second generation 737 model airplanes, and almost all of them are still in exploitation all over the world. CFMI index means the model of the engine, constructed within the frames of the “General Electric” French group and “Snecma” company cooperation. The last accident of Boeing 737 CFMI was in August 2008, when the 16 year old plane, belonging to “Aeroflot Nord” company crashed near Perm, resulting in the death of all 88 people onboard.
2. Boeing 757
One crash per: 13 744 400 flying hours
Years of production: 1982-2005
Planes in operation: 973
The 757 model was developed by the Boeing Corporation to replace the old-fashioned 727 and is still in use by many transportation companies in the USA, including such big ones as Delta and United, as well as by many other foreign air companies. This model got into fatal accidents only 5 times, taking away the lives of 463 passengers (excluding two planes which were blasted during the terrorists’ attack on September 11, 2001)
3. Airbus A320
One crash per: 14 050 200 flight hours
Years of production: 1988 – present
Planes in operation: 3604
A320 and its modifications A318, A319 and A321 are of unchangeable popularity with both budget and traditional companies. Though there are more than 3600 planes of this model in use, during the 20 years of flights only 8 accidents have happened, in which 597 passengers died in total. That is the very plane which was managed to land on Hudson this year in January, after the engines faded out due to the collision with a flock of birds.
4. Boeing 767
One crash per: 14 895 100 flight hours
Years of production: 1982 – present
Planes in operation: 867
Model 767 is one of the most popular long-distance planes with both American and European air companies. During the last 20 years only 3 accidents happened with the airplanes of this model, claiming the lives of 536 passengers. Besides that, 157 people died in these airplanes during the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11 2001. The last accident took place in April 2002, when the Air China flight crashed during landing in Puissant, North Korea. 128 people died.
5. Boeing 737 NG
One crash per: 16 047 900 flight hours
Years of production: 1982 – present
Planes in operation: 2583
“Boeing 737” of the new generation became, undoubtedly, better and safer. During all the history of its exploitation only three accidents took place, claiming the lives of 277 passengers. The last one happened in February 2009 when “Boeing 737”, which belonged to the Turkish Airlines company, crashed while landing in Amsterdam Schiphol airport, resulting in the deaths of 4 crew members and 5 passengers.
6. Boeing 747
One crash per: 17 358 500 flight hours
Years of production: 1970 – present
Planes in operation: 935
The collision of two airplanes of this model, which happened on the runway on the Canaries Islands in 1997, claiming the lives of 585 people, became the biggest air accident in the history. But, on the whole, “Boeing 747” shows enviable reliability, and for almost forty years of operation, the planes got into accidents only 18 times. The last one took place in May 2002 with a plane of “Chinese Airlines”, flying from Hong Kong to Taiwan, 225 people died.
7. Airbus A330
No fatal crashes till 2008.
Years of production: 1993 – present
Planes in operation: 577
Airbus A330 belonging to Air France Company which disappeared on June 1 this year over the Atlantics, flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, became the first fatal accident of this model airplane, which resulted in the death of 228 people onboard. The reason of the accident was not determined, as the “black boxes” of the plane were not found. By the end of 2008 the A330 had flown for 12.6 million hours without any accidents.
8. Airbus A340
No accidents with fatal outcome
Years of production: 1993 – present
Planes in operation: 341
Airbus A340 has already flown for more than 13 million hours without causing death to a single passenger. Despite this enviable statistics air companies do not rush to buy this liner because of its “voraciousness”. Boeing 777 and Airbus A330, similar by the class are much more economical. The only incident with the plane of this model happened in 2005 in Toronto. The Air France plane made an unfortunate landing during a storm. As a result, 43 passengers were injured.
9. Boeing 777
No accidents with fatal outcome
Years of production: 1995 – present
Planes in operation: 742
The latest “Boeing 777” is the safest airplane until now, more than 19 million hours of flying without any fatal incidents. The worst one with the planes of this model was the crash landing of the British Airways company plane in London airport Heathrow. The faultiness was caused by the obstruction of the heat exchanger with the ice crystals. As a result, 13 passengers were injured but nobody died.
HI PLIES SEND PICTURES FOR I
The A320 family is indeed one of the safest aircrafts. A321 has had only one accident so far and that too was a pilot error.

That is not a 777
that is a real 777 but i think what 777 is 777 300er
What about the Boeing 777? The triple seven is a very safe plane.
I agree, all models of 777 have had no fatal crashes and the 777-300 is the safest plane.
I also think that isn’t a 777 its a 777-300ER but reallt i’m not sure that picture is actually real.
