Comparison of the statistics of accidents is difficult because the companies have different number of years for functioning. Most of the time they are flying with a different intensity and different number of passengers transported.
Nevertheless, the U.S. edition Askmen, taking as a basis the ratio of the number of flights to the number of accidents, and taking into account only those carriers that make transcontinental flights, separated the most dangerous passenger airlines in the international market. Refer to this list so you can more safely enjoy travel.
10. Garuda Airlines
Until recently, the Indonesian national carrier was so bad that in 2007 it was even prohibited from flying to EU countries. However, a couple of years later, the ban was lifted, and now Garuda successfully flies to Amsterdam and many Asian cities. Moreover, earlier this year the company awarded the title of “most significant breakthrough in quality.” Nevertheless, statistics of accidents states – four air crashes that have occurred since the company liners, killed 431 people. Most fatal crash happened in 1997 when caught in a trailing smoke from forest fires, plane crashed into a mountain, killing 234 passengers.
Flights: 2 million. Crash: 4. Died: 431.
9. Thai Airways
This year, the largest Thai carrier is celebrating its 50 anniversary. During its existence, the company has been honored with numerous awards for the quality of passenger service. In 2006, Thai Airways has received the prize “Best Crew” and “Best Airline of the world.” In 2007, it was nominated in the category of “Best Airline of the Year ”. In addition, the World Health Organization awarded “Thai Airways’ for best hygiene on board. But in the 1980’s and 1990’s flying on board of this airline was quite dangerous, as incidents haunted it, one after another. The biggest occurred in a flight from Kathmandu in 1992, when the airliner crash killed 113 people.
Flights: 1.98 million. Crash: 4. Died: 352.
8. Avianca
Avianca boasts the longest history of flight in the Western Hemisphere. The first carriage, it began to perform at the dawn of aviation in 1919. The company currently has the most modern fleet in South America, but its reputation was severely marred by several incidents. In the 80 years of airliners airplanes have been chosen for the attacks of the Colombian drug traffickers. To the sad list a plane crash in Madrid was added killing 181 passengers.
Flights: 1.47 million. Crash: 4. Died: 500.
7. Pakistan International Airlines
This state carrier of Pakistan was established in 1955 and now flies to 25 countries. Despite the fact that the company was established with the birth of the state, it has always tried to keep pace with the times and follow the latest trends in the airline industry. For example, PIA became the first airline in Asia, in a park of which there were jets. However, incidents involving airliners PIA has happened a lot. The most fatal of them killed 167 people in 1992, when the plane crashed into a mountain due to poor visibility.
Flights: 1.43 million. Crash: 5. Died: 440.
6. Egyptair
The largest airline flies to the African continent more than 70 destinations worldwide, annually transporting about 10 million people. Alas, since the 70’s the company pursued a series of mishaps that occurred as the fault of the terrorists, and as a result of errors of pilots. The biggest tragedy, which killed 217 people, occurred over the Atlantic Ocean. Transcript of “black boxes” then led investigators to the unequivocal conclusion about the guilt of what happened putting the blame on crew commander.
Flights: 1.07 million. Crash: 4. Died: 402.
5. Kenya Airways
The airline was established in 1977 to meet the increasing demands of tourism industry of the country. And although it accounted only two plane crashes, statistics are alarming since it has not done that many of operations. In addition, two incidents occurred in the past 10 years, and both during night flights. In 2000, Kenya Airways plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing 169 people, and in 2007 another airliner airlines crashed in a swamp, killing 114 passengers.
Flights: 450 000. Crash: 2. Died: 283.
4. Philippine Airlines
Established in 1941, the Philippines state carrier made to the list of dangerous airlines solely because of the unfortunate coincidence. If it had not taken a liking to flights of terrorists, Philippine Airlines could boast of an impeccable past. However, during the 70-year history of the company’s planes blew up at least three times and once the plane was seized by terrorists. Fortunately, despite a large number of incidents of people in them died a little. Highest number of deaths, 36 people, was when the plane broke up in the air due to bomb exploded in the toilet.
Flights: 1.18 million. Crash: 6. Died: 107.
3. Iran Air
Before the revolution of 1979 the airline was the official carrier of the country, but then things began to go get worse. It reduced the number of flights to many international destinations and in the end, this year the European Commission forbade it to fly to EU countries. The reason for this was found sufficient. Over the past 10 years the company has suffered three crashes (the one without casualties). But the biggest disaster occurred in 1988 and immediately claimed the lives of 300 people.
Flights: 970 000. Crash: 5. Died: 708.
2. China Airlines
Chinese national carrier is actually based in Taiwan and is one of the largest in Asia. For unclear reasons, it is with these airlines that a large number of incidents occurred causing major casualties. The most serious accident occurred in 2002 during the voyage Taiwan-Hong Kong and killed 225 people. Then, all blamed on too old technique, and the airline promptly got rid of this type of aircraft. Now the average age of the fleet of the company is 7 years. Also interesting is the fact that China Airlines has a few years unsolved problems concerned the lack of pilots’ communications during flights, especially passing over the territory of the Czech Republic. For example, last year because of the alarm raised by Air Force fighter jets of the BBC countries.
Completed flights: 910 000. Crash: 6. Died: 763.
1. Cubana Airlines
Cubana Airlines was established in 1929 and is one of the first commercial airlines in the world. The national carrier has a fleet of Liberty Island, in the mass, consisting of “Antonov” and “Ilyushin” inherited from the time of the Soviet Union. So a huge number of accidents are expected to take place. Despite the fact that Cuban authorities are currently engaged in work to replace liners, and the latest incident in the airline occurred in 1999, yet it is worth considering, choosing it as a carrier.
Completed flights: 320 000. Crash: 8. Died: 404.
Dear Sir,
Do you have any detail data and statistic comparrison period of the above data and also do you have any accountable survey that can prove your statement above about 10 Most Dangerous Airline??
Please be informed that Garuda Indonesia has been certified by IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit), the well known safety standard program organized by an International Association called IATA (International Air Transport Association) and you may also visit their official web site at http://www.iata.org/ps/certification/iosa ..
This will prove the significant improvement of Garuda Indonesia in a safety procedure and control system.
I hope the above information of 10 most dangerous Airline will not mislead the information about Garuda Indonesia Safety Standard.
I am not the person who involve in safety area of Garuda Indonesia, but i am really concern with your survey above and will think about taking a further action.
Regards
Joseph SAUL
Yeah, you do that Joseph. We all know the EU banned Garuda in 2007 because the satay sauce was too spicy – nothing to do with dodgy maintenance, poorly trained crews and a money first safety second mindset.
Garuda is a very dangerous airline with no first class cabin and that is why I will not fly with them. I have been told that their pilots make their final approach (on landing) way too fast and this results in a very uncomfortable landing as well as a risk of ‘overshooting’ the runway.
Garuda can be summed up as follows: An unsafe, poor quality airline with no first class!
P.s. Good list by the way.
Think about your countrys airlines Sean
This is such a joke. You obviously haven’t heard of any russian airlines and you seem to know nothing about Aviation. Please stick to something that you actually have good knowledge off rather than spending 3 hours and writing up a quick article.
I must agree these airlines air very unsafe and I would never fly on them. My friend recently flew on thai airways and said it was one of the worst most turbulent flight he had ever been on. I was also wondering why aeroflot wasn’t in there. And also, what country is cabana airlines from and why havn’t I heard of them?
I would rather fly Qantas or British airways because they air very safe. Did you know, china airlines has had lots of crashes that we never even hear about? I think you should add Aeroflot in.
Umm… You put Iran Air on there and failed to mention that the United States destroyer accidently shot them down. I hardly think that should have counted against them.
In Africa Kenya Airways is a safe and modern airliner flying newer planes than even AA,Delta BA. Where is Hewa bora airways which crashes everytime please do your reseach well . Only Cubana ,Garuda, PIA and Avianca should be on this list
i think the worst one is air blue in pakistan it ha such a nasty landing that i fear wether i will come back alive.the airlines such think about passenger safety as their first priority.rather than leaving the airbus servicing as a second thought.an engineer check should always be done before and after a flight to make make sure wether to resume a journey if it is safe to do so.im too scared to fly in any air bus.
I always travel by PIA and it seems safer to me than many other airlines.. Its pilots are really well trained plus it is very economical!
If some really thinks THai airways and PIA are more dangerous than Bangladesh airlines.. He should travel in Bangla air.. Dude, u would want to kill urself
Now Garuda Indonesia is far better and fly back to eroupe.
Garuda Indonesia is 4 star airlines.
In 2012, Garuda Indonesia was recognized by Australian customers as the Best International Airline. 😉
Guys, I live in Russia and – believe -Aeroflot is the safiest airline in my country with new airplane’s park. That’s true. Read open statistics.
If we had done it better than anyone else, there is no point arguing like this, just like the Apple products, I think the best thing is not to cover what you had done wrongly, we just need to do it better.
Tata; If Aeroflot is the safest airline in your country then I wouldn´t fly at all…
Well….here’s the worst airline in the world to fly: The Dick Drost Ghost. It is a deHavilland Comet, dig when the hell u saw one of those. Ever get on a plane and see skidmarks on the seats? I was asked by the flight crew to remove my underware and put them in a box of shitted up ones. The pilot walked out wearing a trashed pair of looms and a passenger yelled out that he looked good in his underware. No way will I fly that aaagain
Eastern Airlines DC8 sucks, just flew it outta Burmah and it was so ricketty, whatever you do, don’t fart in that plane, it will haunt you the whole trip. Man it was bad. Could hear the pilot laughing and making stupid noises about poop and stuff. While over the Tanzinan Mountains, the engine shell cover peeled off and left the plane. Pilot said ahhhhh its ok, someone will find it. Insane my friend. Don’t fly it.
i think all the airlines should fly their aircrafts safely fir the sake of the people in board.b’ciz we all want safe flight.juz to all the crew especially the captain plz fly ur passengers safely.god bless
Wth… Is Philippine airlines really that bad?! I don’t think so…
I don’t think some of the worlds most renowned airlines are dangerous i don’t see united airlines when the owing 747 crashed and 300 passengers died on here?
i do agree with air blue being dangerous i was going to travel on the airline but statistics showed it is a new airline and has had previous collisions.
These US dudes might have just gotten their sick data from the air. If you will see, even some US airlines would definitely top the list. It is simple.. just watch seconds from disaster… You will see that even the US have problems far worse than any of these airlines mentioned.
there are a lot of problems even in the European airlines. And if you will count them in, they would look just far worse than the airlines mentioned here. geez..
THIS IS A TOTAL BULLSHIT.
you didin’t include korean air which has more fatal accidents than PAL. since 1990s, PAL only have 3 fatal accidents which is lesser than the Air France’s flight 447 and concorde flight 4590.
you didn’t include aeroflot.
and just because of some unfortunate accidents means that the whole airline company is dangerous.
i think your just making an article for the sake of making one. may i know all your sources and you base for all this bullshit? thank you. 🙂
I strongly disagree for Philippine Airlines being unsafe…..For the last few years after the hijacking incidents, Philippine internal security has made very good progress. As well for maintenance PAL planes are maintained by Lufthansa Technik which is also cooperating with MacroAsia Corporation a PAL maintenance and Airport services company. As well, PAL is the only airline known in and he world to make “Proper” landing procedures since they are highly well trained than any other pilots out there in the world.
PAL is currently undergoing fleet changes for better services and expanding its global network, they are currently in negotiations with Boeing for procurement of 747-8i and 787 Dreamliners to replace the aging A330, A340, and Boeing 747-400s.
If there are any unreliable and dangerous airlines out there I would likely agree more that most of them are located in Most of Africa, Russia, Indonesia, and Former states of the Soviet Union.
But although in fareness if you are going to base with EU Ban and CAT 2 downgrade by FAA, well its the Aviation Community’s poor equipment, funding, and training in the past…..But right now its all been answered and currently The EU Ban and CAT2 Downgrade will be lifted this year.
I am surprised there are no Russian airline in this list (maybe Putin simply manipulated this list. I think there are at least 1 Russian airline plane crash in Russia each year). Why do Russian passengers clap whenever the airplanes land safely?!!! They must be saying “Thank heavens we survived.”
Suprised to see a number of airlines on there. PIA is very safe airline compared to other african and russian airlines out there! Airblue is also a better airline than PIA. What about Bhoja Air they are worse!
Qantas and British Airways are very very safe ??? Its totally excessive, think again ….
A Philippine Airlines plane exploded in midair, broke into pieces and only 36 people died? If this survey is about transcontinental flights, would that be strange that there were only 36 people on the plane? And besides most of the accidents were in the domestic flights not international. The only Philippine Airlines incident of a bomb exploding in midair was in 1994. The plane was a 747, there was only one fatality and the plane landed safely in Japan. The incident was featured in National Geographics Air Crash Investigation because of the pilots quick response to the situation. See the links below. So I do not know where you got your data or information but it is all wrong!

Iran air is really the most dangerous airline in the worlds that it have B707 yet and Tu.154.
I don’t get how the ’88 Iran Air tragedy counts against them when it was due to an US aegis cruiser shooting them down. You can’t always look at fatalities and make up a list like this- some of these airlines had accidents that were the fault of manufacturers, maintenance, ground controllers, bad weather or just just the plain old and cliche “perfect storm” scenario. Or, you know, getting blasted out of the sky by idiots who need a computer to tell them that 15000 is a higher number than 14000.
I am surprised to Read that Egyptair is listed and also a remark concerning the shooting down of its plane over the Coast of the USA which went quiet and the Americans accused the Piolt who has a considerbale experiene of commiting suicide..hahahaa.. the joint investigation was all gone quiet as the Egyptians refused the US conclusions. I am surprised that the comment did not mention there were many top brass of the Egyptian Army on board..need I say more?
and the crash of egypt air was caused by an al queda agen when a muslim prays and yes prays out side a temple the are about to commit an act of terrorist before a muslim committs a terroirist act they will pray frist outside a temple in order to get premission or rite of passage to committ the act…
iran air has the best pilots in the world but because of the sanctions of usa we can’t buy new west airplanes
Sorry but this list is not based on facts the worst airline ever is Air France
the fly like the drive
Ha! Air New Zealand is no were in sight motherfuckers, hehe
lets look, american airlines … operations since 1934, 38 crashes, 1501 died, not counting victims in WTC tower, worst crash took life of 271
just picked random big airliner just to show how biased this article is
