The sand on the beach may not only be gold or white but also black. And just by looking at the surrealistic contrasted landscapes it is almost impossible to call black a depressive color because the waves washing the ash-black shore look very attractive. It turns out that there are a number of shades of black that exist in the nature…
Alaska
It is highly improbably anyone would like to swim in the crystal water splashing on the sand of the beach in Prince William Bay – the water is of a cold blue shade. But a trip on a ferry will give you a chance to see almost all the animals and birds of Alaska. A big number of seals, fur-seals and sea-otters enjoys lying on the ice-floes and they put up a “show” of jumping into the water and playing as if specially for the tourists. And this all happens with the magnificent wild nature in the background – surrounding mountains covered with grass near the waterfalls and ice-floes.
Pololu Valley Beach, Hawaii
Yet another beach, the beauty of which is better admired without getting into the water, is located in Hawaii. It can be found in the end of the highway 270, which stretches along the shore and is famous for its wonderful views. Perhaps, this is the most famous beach with black sand as a significant number of its pictures are available in the Internet as wallpapers for the computer monitors. The travelers come here mainly for the lovely views and pictures as swimming can be highly dangerous because of very strong currents and turbulences. It is hardly needless to mention that the wind with its sea water splashes is so powerful that cameras need to be protected from it.
Vik Beach, Iceland
It seems as though this beach is almost the only beautiful place in the desert landscape of Iceland. Even though this is the most southern point of the island you would hardly want to take your jacket off as it is quite chilly here. It is better to go for a walk in a cloudless day otherwise you can get soaked to the skin.
Black Sand Beach, California
One of the most visited beaches in California is surrounded by rather high peaks and the views from here are unforgettable. Very often instead of driving the travelers get here by foot using multiple track ways formed in the neighboring mountains.
Kehena Beach, Hawaii
Local inhabitants as well as numerous tourists prefer lying on this beach without any clothing. It seems a natural thing to do here as the atmosphere is absolutely relaxed and so close to the nature. If naked bodies insult your feelings you can watch the dolphins playing in the water, a great number of which live in the surrounding areas. Or if the waves are not too high you can dive into the ocean in order to compete with the sea mammals in the art of water-amusements.
Oneuli Beach, Maui, Hawaii
This beach is rather deserted and one can go camping here without being concerned that someone will shatter your peace and quiet. Local amusements consist of walking in the neighborhood, boating, swimming and fishing. The entourage is so peaceful that you can simply sit on the sand and enjoy the wonders of the nature for hours.
Punaluu Beach, Hawaii
The sand on this Hawaiian beach is considered to be the blackest one. And this all is due to the volcano, which is located 25 miles away from the shore. The main attraction here besides the ashy shade of the sand are the green turtles, which like to rest in the coastal waves. They are not afraid of the people and you can even swim with them but beware of the underwater rocks, which can be found here in great quantities.
Honokalani Black Sand Beach, Maui, Hawaii
This beach, which is located in the National Nature Park, is surrounded with volcanic rocks from all the sides. Playing hide-and-seek in the volcanic caves can become an enchanting game not only for the children but also for the adults. Nevertheless, the favorite local amusement here is diving in order to explore the underwater caves.
