Vietnam plans to attract more tourists, creating new resorts targeted especially on golfers. A new luxury resort Laguna Hue, located just an hour’s drive from the international airport of Hue and Danang is scheduled to open by 2012. This seems to be a rather interesting way of “stealing” tourists from neigboring countries.

Seven well-known hotel brands, designed for 2 thousand rooms, a world level golf club, a summer residence, a business center, a spa and entertainment complexes will be located on the territory of the new resort. Tourists will be entertained, not only by playing golf, but also travel to the ancient city of Hue, which is now under the protection of UNESCO, and the commercial port Hoi. In the first stage of construction two hotels, Banyan Tree Hue and Angsana Hue, with 350 rooms, and created a golf course with 18 holes will be built.

A new golf club Montgomerie Links Vietnam, which is designed for golfers of all levels of training, has opened not far from the resort of Danang in August 2009. The golf club with 18 holes is situated on the natural landscape, rich dunes, with views of the Marble Mountains and the South China Sea. The club occupies over 700 thousand square meters of territory. The modern Golf Academy is also located here, where you can learn the sport from professionals from around the world which adds additional boost to the visitors. Construction of a golf club took more than 2 years, and about 54 million dollars was invested.

According to the Vietnamese tour managers, the creation of these golf clubs is justified. After all, the golf tourism in Asia is developing successfully, despite the consequences of global financial crisis. The leaders in this field in the region are Thailand and Malaysia which are the main competitors of this country. The revenue from the sports tourism is about $800 million a year and they increase by 10% annually. Experts believe that the Asian countries are not making right decision betting on elite sport, because apart from wealthy tourists, modern Asian fields have raised interest among sports associations who are seeking new territories for the international competitions.

Let us remind, that according to the statistics provided by the National Agency of Vietnam, for the first 7 months of 2009 the country lost 18,7% of tourists compared to the same period in 2008. Major countries providing tourists to Vietnam, China, South Korea and Japan, showed a decline of 37%. The reason for this decline of interest of travelers to Vietnam is the financial crisis and pandemic “of swine flu”. However, local tour managers do not give up and believe that betting on sports trend in tourism will give further chances in the struggle to attract tourists to Vietnam and will become a great way for the budget fulfilling for this country.

The British Library holds an exhibition of photographs of middle of the XIX century, brought by British photographers from distant travelling. These are the first images of the remote corners of the world, which left an indelible impression on the British Victorian era. The desire of people to see the places in faded, black and white photographs with their own eyes can be considered the beginning of the era of tourism. People started to travel not in search of commercial gain or conquest expeditions, but they started the long-distance travel for the sole purpose – to satisfy their own curiosity.

Shoshenq Yard, Karnak, Egypt
Photographer: Francis Frith, 1850
Emerged in the middle of the XIX century, the first photos of architectural monuments caused such a wild interest of public that not only spurred the development of the photographic industry, but also created a new market for photographic postcards.

Colosseum, Rome, Italy
Photographer: Calvert Richard Jones, 1846
In subsequent decades the photography experienced a rapid growth and constant improvement of technology.

Moscow, Russia
Photographer: unknown, 1841
The camera has become an indispensable attribute of the traveler, and images brought back from distant places were the best souvenir. And this is especially in an era when photography had not yet received the widespread distribution and was considered a very expensive hobby.

Boulevards of Paris, France
Photographer: William Henry Fox Talbot, 1843
Disappointed by his own inability to draw, the English scientist William Henry Fox Talbot worked to improve the methods of photography. And he achieved a considerable success in this. He also became the publisher of the world’s first book, illustrated with photos.

View of Seine, Paris, France
Photographer: Charles Louis Chevalier, 1843
The first company specialized in organizing trips was founded by Thomas Cook. Already in the fifties of the XIX century a group trip to Paris and Northern Europe has become commonplace for the British. People wishing to spend 11 pounds on the cognitive and pleasant trip turned out to be thousands, and by the end of the century the “Thomas Cook and Son” company has expanded its activities also in the New World.

Royal Opera House, Madrid, Spain
Photographer: Charles Clifford, 1853
Born Welshman Charles Clifford settled in Madrid in 1850, where he got carried away filming Spanish architecture, and actively inculcated countrymen interested in Spanish culture and traditions.

Ramesseum, Thebes, Egypt
Photographer: Francis Frith, 1857
Having stood for thousands of years the monuments of ancient Egypt were under threat of extinction in the XIX century because of the rapidly growing number of homegrown archaeologists and European museums that were enthusiastically buying up antiquity. Francis Frith considered photography to be an essential tool for capturing fast disappearing form of historical monuments.

Palm trees and mimosa, Calabash, Egypt
Photographer: Félix Teynard, 1841
Civil engineer Felix Teynard systematically documented all the major Egyptian sites near Cairo, and left the “descendants ” hundreds of photos.

Quay of Naples, Italy
Photographer: Adolphe Braun, 1868
Books with illustrated photographs began to appear in the 60-ies of the XIX century as a luxury item and were then available only to wealthy people. But gradually the development of photography and printing business made photo albums available also to the middle class, which also underpinned a rapid increase in the army of travelers.

Falls Staub, Switzerland
Photographer: Adolphe Braun, 1866
Adolph Brown, who replaced the craft of engineer with the camera, became one of the first professional photographers, specializing in shooting landscapes, and it worked successfully in the emerging industry of photographic postcards.

Boats of Irrawaddy, Burma
Photographer: Philip Adolphe Klier, 1880
The invention of photography coincided with a period of unprecedented expansion of European colonization. A rapid development of the transport network, which was headed by a steam engine, made possible not only the active international trade, but also the mass tourism.

Crimean historians and archaeologists are planning to make it possible for the tourists to visit the Peninsula for excavation. The representatives of the Ministry of Culture are protesting, because this kind of tourism can contribute to the looting of burials.

According to the popularizations of science, the burial grounds and the fortifications of Crimea, as well as other interesting historical sites will attract more tourists to the peninsula, who are interested in cognitive, archaeological tourism.

The idea of using tourists as a labor force in the archaeological excavation was released to the public in a press-conference held in Simferopol by the Professor of Touraine National University V.I. Vernadsky and the representative of the charity foundation Heritage of the Millennium I. Khrapunov. In his view, tourists should be given an opportunity to get a unique experience and give the opportunity to see what no one has yet seen.

On the other hand, it’s really not that difficult – so far during the excavations, including those in the Crimea, the work of the first-year students of historical faculties of universities and institutes are employed. Students come to practice, knowing little about the practical archeology. Teachers and students of archeology direct them, who explain new people each year the same rules of conduct on the dig. Could the work of history fan tourists be managed with the same success?

But if students are digging for free and are dependent on the management, the tourists then will have to pay for the participation in the excavation, and the relations with the leadership of the expedition will be based on fundamentally different level. A few people are ready for “commercial relations” with the tourists in scientific expeditions. Besides, all the finds from the historical monument are removed and carefully recorded for research purposes, and to ensure that tourists will not want to hide the gold beads from the burial ground, or an ancient Greek painted vessel is almost impossible. And the scientific value of these excavations will be very doubtful.

Nevertheless, the Heritage of the Millennium Foundation with the support of the International Fund for “Eastern Europe” has already launched a project to establish the Center of archaeological tourism in Crimea. The purpose of it will be to introduce representatives of the tourist industry and travelers to the archaeological heritage of the Crimea and the capabilities of its use for tourism purposes.

Among the objects on the excavation of which it is planned to attract tourists are such famous historical sites, as Sudak fortress, Reserve Chersonesos, the cave city Chufut-Calais, Greco-Scythian ancient settlement of Kara-Tobe and other monuments.

We recall that there are more than 8 thousand historical monuments in Crimea, among which more than the half are archaeological. There are Scythian burial mounds and settlement in peninsula, prehistoric campsites, the Greek cities and Roman fortresses, burial era of the Great migrations of people, Byzantine and Genoese fortresses, medieval “cave” cities.

Excavations have always been an exciting and entertaining activity in Crimea, and if they will be available to tourists, it will attract many history fans to the peninsula.

The first “Red Line” subway of 52 kilometers was launched in Dubai on September 9. The trains are equipped with a unique control system and will run in automatic mode.

The railway route connects the Rashid and Jebel Ali areas as reported AmeInfo.com. There are 29 intermediate stations on this line, passing along the road of Sheikh Zayed, including Internet City, Burj Dubai, Dubai International Financial Center, Emirates Towers, World Trade Center, and Terminal-3 Dubai International Airport.

Dubai Metro is the most modern railway system with automatic control, the first of its kind in the Middle East. The design of stations perfectly combines the traditions of Dubai Heritage and the modern trend.

Metro is built in compliance with all international safety standards. Rolling stocks with a capacity of 643 passengers consist of five parts: a “golden car” and four “silver cars”, each of 18m length.

Passengers of the first “golden cars”, equipped only with 18-S wide leather seats, will be able to enjoy a luxurious interior in a light blue color, as well as the panoramic views through the windshield. The interior of “silver cars” is made in blue and green colors.

For the convenience of passengers video and audio system is running in the subway cars making alerts along the route. All cars have special places for children and women, as well as for persons with disabilities.

High standards of comfort are met at the Dubai “Subway” stations. Passengers will be able to wait for the train in the cool, which will be provided by the air conditioning system.

Meanwhile, on 9 September only 10 stations had been put into operation. All remaining stations will be opened by February 2010, says chairman of the Office of Roads and Transport in Dubai Mattar al-Tair.

Now Dubai has all for the tourism. The authorities expect that the unique transport system in Dubai will attract crowds of tourists, and will facilitate development in this sense, the incoming tourism of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was announced by the Emir assistant of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. However, the tourist industry experts doubt that even a super-modern subway can become the main attraction, which itself will attract tourists.

“Of course, when people share experiences about Singapore, they always talk about underground, where it’s clean and cool, – argues the deputy director of the company TRI Hospitality John Podaras. – Similarly, the Dubai Metro will become the topic of conversation.”

However Podaras doubts that someone deliberately chooses Dubai, rather than the Egyptian Sharm el-Sheikh to see the local “subway”.

However, experts believe that the Tourist Industry will now also benefit greatly. Travelers will be able to get to the hotel in comfort and without any crush.

“Our guests will enjoy the trip without any clashes, and avoid the traffic jams,” – said the director of the hotel Suitehotel & Ibis Mall of the Emirates Nicola Hohgruber. This especially concerns those hotels that are near subway stations.

However, these benefits of the tourist industry in terms of the work of station do not end up. Experts expect the rapid development of business and corporate tourism, for which the availability of transport infrastructure is a key factor.

“Metro will contribute to the organization (in Dubai) international forums” – assures the consultant in the field of tourism, leisure and hospitality industry of the company, Deloitte Rob O’Hanlon.

According to him, Dubai has long before become an attractive place for tourists. And the only unresolved issue remains the question of passenger transportation. The construction of the metro ambitious project to create a modern tourist center can be considered complete. “This is – one of the last pieces of a puzzle, a certificate of completion of the project”, – added O’Hanlon.

During the month of Ramadan, the metro will run from 6:00 to midnight, all the days of the week except Friday. On Friday, Metro will open at 14:00 and work until midnight. After Ramadan, metro will pass to normal working hours – from 6:00 to 23:00 Saturday to Thursday and from 14:00 to midnight – Friday.

Dubai subway is the flagship project of local government roads and transport with investments of 15.5 billion dirhams (4.4 billion dollars). This is a very generous funding, if not wasteful. The ambitious project cost 75% more expensive than the average calculated value.

The new subway will be an important factor for transport and economic development of the city, and will enhance the value of the property near subway stations. Big public benefit is seen in it because passengers will be able to move comfortably and safely.

In June 2010, the launch of the second Green Line subway is scheduled, which will be held on the central business districts of Dubai.

In addition fares in the subway will be relatively low – 5.8 dirhams (just over one dollar). Officials expect that every hour 27 thousand passengers will use the subway per year and trains will transport 355 million people.

The metro will relieve the road network of the Emirate, which is already overburdened. Financial costs due to recurring congestions exceeds 1 billion dollars a year.

Authorities of Venice develop radical schemes which will help to protect city from the travelers coming to the city of arts only for one day. Such tourists do not pay for hotels, do not go on voyages, eat sandwiches which they bring with them and even try to avoid visiting paid toilets. The administration of city considers, that Venice will survive only if the rush of “one-day” tourists would be ceased.

According to one of the offered schemes, only those travelers, who will be able to reserve a hotel room, will be allowed to come to the city. Enrico Mingardi, who is responsible for public transport in ancient Italian city, suggested introducing booking and preliminary sale of tickets for ships and water buses which are the single public transport in Venice. “It is necessary to thoroughly study all the offered ideas and to limit the number of tourists. There is a physical limit and it is impossible to increase it”, – writes La Nouova Venezia. “Venetians cannot stand the inconvenience of mass tourism anymore”.

It is still unknown, how authorities are going to physically limit access to the city for those tourists who will have neither reservations of hotel, nor the ticket to museums or water buses. However this week the Council of the city will discuss offers together with tourist associations and inhabitants of Venice. The representative of Council has declared that the idea of restricted tourists’ access to Venice has been discussed for already severaldecades. However this idea was very disputable as it breaks a democratic principle of freedom of moving.

The population of Venice is about 60 thousand. For venetians the represented figure is considered to be critical. In opinion of the townspeople, this small number of inhabitants cannot support Venice as a functioning city or a huge open-air museum.

Let us remind, that not so long ago the mayor of Venice, Massimo Cacciari, who has personally caught the Portuguese tourist who urinated in one the Venetian channels, has announced the season of “hunting for tourists.” The authorities of the city have introduced the punitive measures limiting freedom of visitors of Venice a while ago. Tourists are forbidden to feed pigeons, to sit on boards of fountains and to walk without shirts. Tourists were forced to leave their knapsacks before entering water buses. Authorities also insist that visitors give their places to elderly venetians and pregnant women. For many years the administration tries to introduce a payment plan for visiting the city, but unsuccessfully. The project of obligatory registration of groups and individual tourists is discussed as well. Besides, there are penalties for tourists. For example, feeding pigeons will cost the fan of animals 300 euros.

Scientists have been threatening the mankind for a long time already with the global cataclysms connected with the climate change. They promise either an ice age or a flood, which will wash the civilization away from the Earth. It looks like the last trend on which almost all the researchers agreed, is the warming and, judging by the latest data, it threatens not our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, it threatens directly us.
The speed of the snow melting in the Antarctica grows every decade, Arctic throws off the ice, and the glaciers of Greenland sweepingly thaw. Except for the opening new possibilities on the new lands and the political opposition to the hypothetical deposits and resources what else does the change of a climate promise to holiday-makers and tourists? The consulting company Xola Consulting has published a forecast on how the global warming of the climate will affect the world tourist industry.
Let’s first look at Europe. Its map will greatly change with the increasing of level of the World Ocean. The most part of the countries which fought with floods for centuries will go under the water. First of all the changes will concern Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the northern part of Italy. London, Gent, Bruges, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Venice – these cities will die and become reachable only by boats at first, but then only for divers.
Besides the countries and the districts which are in natural lowlands, the places which are popular with tourists, like the mounting skiing resorts, will be in danger, too. The Alpine glaciers and attractive lines of many modern mounting skiing resorts, where hundreds of thousands European and Asian inhabitants go to rest, to spend the holidays or days off, going in for sports, are gradually disappearing. The mountain skiing season becomes shorter, winters full of snow come to Europe later, and leave earlier. It is enough to remember that there was not a “white” Christmas in Europe for a long time, and that the mountain-skiing news sites dazzled with announcements about the use of snow guns at the beginning of the season. Of course, it is possible to refer to the old peoples’ muttering that the grass was greener and the snow was colder in the old times, however, the researches of the scientists pass a terrible sentence – the snow in the Alps is less and less, the glaciers melt and will completely disappear during the period from 2030 to 2050. Accordingly, the winter mountain sports centers will move to the northern areas of Europe and towards Eurasia, where the climate remains continental and abrupt continental.
It is funny, but the Russian resorts can only win from the climate change. However, it is not worth thinking that Sochi will remain the mountain-skiing centre. The climate of this Russian region and of all northern Black Sea coast becomes similar to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The latter fact will only contribute to the charm of the place. The question is whether the service can be equal to that of the Turkish or Egyptian

one. The climate will soften on the Baltic coast, which will become more similar to a resort zone with a warm climate; therefore the season here becomes longer. But we should not forget about the rising of the World ocean level, which will not leave the Baltic out ether. A part of territories will unfortunately be flooded, and this misfortune can also concern St. Petersburg.
Siberia and the Far East, according to the unfavorable forecasts of climatologists and soil scientists, most likely, will be inaccessible to the inhabitants of the European region as the permafrost will start to melt actively. According to the forecasts, the communication between the Central, Siberian, and Far East regions will discontinue and the ones who will enjoy their vacations on the resorts of the former Soviet Union will be our Asian friends. Not only they will take vacations there but probably live there, too.
Bob Henson, the author of the “Reference book on global warming” in the interview to CNN named 5 tourist places of interest in the world, which one should hasten to see while they are not destroyed by global warming. Alas, the Big Barrier reef and a lot of coral islands of the Pacific and Indian oceans will suffer the same distressing fate. Islands will be flooded, and corals will die, since besides the rise of the ocean’s level, its temperature will rise too. Corals maintain strictly defined maximal temperatures and even now the water keeps almost at the top of the acceptable level. Ecologists are alarmed – many kinds of corals die already today.
Many North American resorts like New Orleans will appear in the flooding zone, and the ones which will not be flooded, will be ruined by the heat. The Caribbean region will also suffer from flooding and climate change – magnificent forests on islands will be replaced by plants, which do not require as much water. As a result of these cataclysms the resort zone will move to the north and will attract more tourists to Canada, making it the new “Mecca” of the tourism in the Western hemisphere.
Global warming will also have a bad impact on the coniferous woods of the American national parks. Hordes of insects, whose population is currently regulated by the cold winters, having bred, will simply eat the biggest part of the wood cover, and the states would have to spend enourmous means for pest control.
And at last, the tropical forests of Amazon, which had already suffered from the uncontrolled felling, will appear on the verge of disappearance. Destruction of forests does not contribute solely to the erosion of soils, but also results in the humidity reduction in the air. The latter tendency will only amplify because of the mid-annual temperature increase and that will lead to the gradual extinction of the unique tropical plants, which are used to a humid climate.

How different cities and countries become attractive for tourists? Beauty of the nature, the historical value, tasty cuisine, and …the nomination to “Oscar”! It was the American Film Academy that made many non-remarkable directions popular for travelers, which increased the incomes of the local population from tourism.

Mumbai, “Slumdog Millionaire”
Despite the reputation of the most glamour city of India, Mumbai is also the financial centre of the country. The film “Slumdog Millionaire”, which got 8 statues at the last ceremony of “Oscar” awards, has made a trip to the city’s poorest area, Daravi, into the most popular film trip in the world.

Kyoto, “Memoirs of a Geisha”
Kyoto, the large Japanese city, was known enough due to the fact that it was the capital of the Country of the rising sun and the residence of emperors from 1794 to 1868. However, this fact alone wasn’t able to attract such a large quantity of tourists who have literally poured into the city after the film “The Memoirs of the geisha” was awarded 3 “Oscars”.

Rio de Janeiro, “The Motorcycle Diaries”
The film “The Motorcycle Diaries” is shot by motives of the book with the same name; it is about the legendary Che Guevara’s trip across the South America. During the five years that passed from the film’s release, it pushed a lot of people to an overland travel across the continent, coming to an end in Rio de Janeiro. A carnival, Copacabana and the huge statue of Jesus are quite capable of making one to feel the true taste of Rio.

New Zealand, “The Lord of the Rings”
According to the statistics, in the years preceding the release of “Lord of the Rings”, the tourist industry of New Zealand was in decline. However, after the film received the Film academy statue, in a very short time a big inflow of tourists was mentioned in reports of tourist department of New Zealand

Scotland, “The Braveheart”
Scotland with its magnificent nature and ancient castles could always offer much to tourists even without the film industry. But it appeared extremely attractive also to the directors shooting their masterpieces here. The most known film which was shot in this most independent part of the United Kingdom, is considered to be Mel Gibson’s film “The Braveheart”, narrating about the fight of the Scottish people against the Englishmen, trying to take away their land. The heroic saga has deserved 5 “Oscars”.

Transylvania, “The Dracula”
In total, more than twenty films were shot about the Dracula. It is unknown which one of them served to create larger popularity of Karpat landscapes and gloomy local castles. However, it is absolutely clear that the history about the Transylvanian vampire played the important role in the attraction of tourists to not very popular Romania.

The Grand Canyon, “Thelma and Louise”
Ridley Scott, who in 1991 shot the story about the waitress tired of her boyfriend’s cheating and her friend who was bored to death to be a housekeeper, made the Grand Canyon a place which tourists will always long for. The oldest national park of the USA became an excellent decoration for getting the “Oscar” for the original story of the film, which isn’t recommended to be watched by children under 18.

Florence, “A Room with a View”
An English film which was awarded 3 “Oscars” at once and many of the European awards, most likely designated one more place in Florence where tourists long for, than made this already well known Italian city more popular. A story of a girl opening for herself meanings of the words “romance”, “man”, “pleasure” during the trip across Italy, is considered to be a standard of a good taste. Only 3 million dollars were spent for film shootings in 1985, and in world hire it gathered 60 million.

Kenya, “From Africa”
It appears that not only Obama has served to the development of tourism in Kenya. With the background of African exotic nature, the love story of the Danish baroness and the local white hunter, mad about Safari, shot in 1985, supported the interest of tourists for this kind of entertainments for many years.

Salzburg, “The Sounds of Music”
The old film shot on the same name as the Broadway musical, dated 1965, deserved 5 awards of the American Film Academy and 2 “Gold globe” awards. In memories of the travelers seeing this cinema with a typical American happy end, Salzburg starts to be associated with a magic voice of the main heroine of a film – Marias Fon Trapp.

Global warming threatens glaciers. In the news time from time slips that one or another icy river is endangered. So the best way is to hurry in order to make sure that the photos do not lie, and the ice really is all shades of blue and pink colors, and not white, as it appears to those who saw it only in the form of icicles, hanging from the roofs of houses.

Biafo Glacier, Pakistan

Due to its secluded location in the heart of a mountainous area in northern Pakistan, the glacier is little touched by civilization. A journey to the edge of the ice plains to the great “Snow Lake” will take several days, which does not seem boring because of the grandeur of the surrounding flora and fauna. Although the hike is designed for non-professionals, it is better to go on it in a good physical shape, or it is very likely that instead of contemplating the primeval beauty of nature, you will, breathing heavily, admire solely the ground under your feet.

Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina

In the national park of Lago Argentino, there are 13 entire glaciers, but the most beautiful of them is recognized as Perito Moreno. An ice river of 60 meters height divides the high mountain Lake Argentino into two parts: the Southern Sea and the Rich Sea. Paving a way to the channel through ice, the water of the two seas is gradually destroying it, and thus the tourists can enjoy the spectacle of huge blocks of ice falling into the water. To the more daring, a water trip with unforgettable photographs will be offered. On the territory of the reserve one can easily meet the ostrich-nandu, the guanaco, and even the largest bird in the world – the condor.

Glacier Bay, Alaska

Glacier Bay – a huge national park on the south-eastern coast of Alaska, is under the protection of UNESCO. Whether through the dislike of Americans to move on their “two”, or because of the small number of roads in the area, walking tours are rarely offered, being replaced by helicopter or airplane tours of the glaciers. However, to observe the sparkling ice, you do not have to leave the hotel, which is located directly on the territory of the park. Another opportunity to enjoy the rearing ice blocks and icebergs, broken away from the edge of the glacier, is to cruise along the coast. While swimming in the vicinity of the reserve one can meet walruses, whales and even dolphins, and in coastal forests deer and bears are found.

Furtwangler Glacier, Tanzania

Since the beginning of the century the glacier, which is almost on the equator, is gradually melting and according to the predictions of scientists, by 2020, will disappear altogether. Furtwangler is located on the north side of Kilimanjaro, close to the peaks at the altitude of 5000 meters. While climbing the highest peak in Africa is meant for unprepared tourists and climbing skills are not required, to get to the glacier, much less to the top, is not easy. The main problem is the rarefied high air, because of which less than half of travelers gets to the destination, and the rest surrender before, and have to turn back.

Vatnajokull Glacier, Iceland

The largest glacier of Iceland, about 80% of the total area of the ice cover of the island, got its name exactly thanks to the frozen water. Its huge fields, mottled with cracks, stretch for 8300 square kilometers. With the cold beauty of ice in the center competes the stiffened in fancy bends lava of the neighboring volcanic landscape. Normally you can reach here in a jeep, accompanied by guides, and then everyone can get occupied with what is more to their liking. Favorite tourist activities: climbing on the glacier, descending into ice clefts and bathing in thermal springs under the arches of ice caves, as well as skiing on snow rafts.

Yulong Glacier, China

Scientists have repeatedly predicted the disappearance of the glacier to the south of China, but a regular monitoring of its movement carried out since 1982, refuted the pessimistic projections: the glacier recedes at a few hundred meters up, then is coming down again, depending on the climatic fluctuations. Currently, the lower limit of the glacier is being held at an altitude of about 4200 meters above sea level, and getting here is not so easy. The air at this height is rarefied, and those who wish to enjoy securely the sparkling blocks of all shades of blue, must be equipped with oxygen masks.

Fox and Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand

The glaciers, flowing in frozen waterfalls from the western slope of the Southern Alps, come so close to the sub-tropical evergreen forests that their neighborhood seems completely unnatural. To the end of the Franz Josef Glacier, you can slowly walk on foot from the settlement of the same name. And you can fly round the both by helicopter or even land on them.

Athabasca Glacier, Canada

Another fast-melting glacier, which is regarded as the most beautiful in North America, in recent years has lost almost half of its bulk. Currently, its length is only about 6 kilometers. As a result of this intensive melting of ice the glacier is constantly on the move and to roam on it alone, unaccompanied by a guide, is expressly prohibited – good chances of landing in a cleft.

Antarctica

And, of course, more snow and ice can be found in Antarctica and that apparently has been the cause of the increased popularity of the continent in light of global warming. If, within 90 years only 6-7 thousand people got here in the season, in the past year, the number of tourists reached 45 thousand. Accordingly, there was an increase in the number of incidents that could potentially harm the ecology of the region. In this regard, recently the 28 countries that lead the scientific activities in Antarctica, signed an agreement on the limitation of tourism on the continent.

In addition to all-famous Goa, there are many beaches in India where tourists have not reached yet. Only here can one be almost completely alone and enjoy the wonderful beaches with white sand and coconut palms inclined over the ocean.

KALPENI
The island belongs to the group of the Lakshadweep islands scattered in the Arabian Sea at a distance of 400 km from the south western part of India. The beach itself is in a lagoon surrounded by tiny islands, which have the names Thilakkam, Pitti and Cheriyam, and is surrounded by coral reefs.
This beach is not so popular, as Kavaratti and Bangaram, and all because there are no luxury hotels here, only small bungalows. Most local residents are not interested in tourists, but are still engaged in their traditional crafts – the cultivation of coconut palms and fishing.

Those who come here, mostly entertain themselves with water sports. Here you can go kayaking, rent a catamaran or sail on boat. If you use a boat with a transparent bottom, you can enjoy the sea turtles, of which there is a great multitude in the surrounding waters, and simply enjoy the spectacle of the rich underwater world of coral reefs.
Of the attractions on the island there is only a lighthouse and a banyan grove. Travellers usually buy cowry shells and various articles made of them as souvenirs. If you want to travel, it is worth to travel to the southernmost island of the archipelago – Minicoy. Here is one of the oldest lighthouses in India, built in 1885.
A separate visa is required to visit the islands, which is acquired during the day. The only airport of the archipelago is located on the island of Agatti, from which to get to Kalpeni is possible in one day. The climate on the islands is tropical, the temperature ranges from 28-35 degrees Celsius. The best time to for visit is from January to May.

KARWAR
The beauty of local beaches inspired poets, it motivated the famous Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore to write his first work. The total length of the sand shoreline, which is mostly shaded by palms growing almost near the water, is more than 300 kilometres. Privacy here is not to be looked for, as since the beginning of 2002, the Karnataka State Government allocated considerable resources for the development of tourism in the region.
From the beach of Karvar a boat can be taken to nearby islands. If you get tired of admiring the turquoise water surface, you can visit the fort on the hill of Sadashivgad, a temple dedicated to goddess Durga, the Octagonal church, temples Venkataraman and Naganatha or the amusement park Dandeli.

It is also worth visiting the island of Devbagh, the beach of which is so well protected from the wind that the water here is always calm. In here and there scattered restaurants, hidden in houses, standing on piles directly in the water, be sure to taste the traditional local seafood, which is however quite spicy.
Finally, be sure to get to Om beach. The contrast of black rocks and the dazzling white sand of the three bays similar in shape to a symbol of “Om” will leave a lasting impression.
The closest airport is in Goa. Best time to visit the state is from July to February. The most hot weather prevails here in April and May, when the temperature reaches up to the mark of 40 degrees.

MANDVI
The 6 kilometre beach of Ahmedpur Mandvi in Gujarat will please with the bright sun, dense white sand, suitable for long walks by rote, and the azure water, which is so pleasing to enjoy sitting in the lounge.
The beach is a paradise for lovers of water sports. You can rent scooters, go water-skiing and surfing or sit behind the wheel of speed motor boats and float away into the turquoise sea. In addition, the surrounding waters are good for catching fish, and the fishing and cooking on the coals on the beach can easily give meaning to the day. Or you can just walk to the nearby fishing village, and get acquainted with the friendly locals and share their meal.

Not far from the shore stands the majestic Vijay Vilas palace, whose forms combine Indian, European and Islamic cultures. From a viewing platform an impressive view is opening on the palace itself and the ocean.
The closest airport is 150 kilometres away, in Keshod, to where the planes fly out of Bombay. The best time to travel is from November to February.

MARARIKULAM
There are no souvenir shops, beach bars and crowds of holidaymakers here. And this is the best place to spend lazy weekends on the beaches of state of Kerala. Life here moves slowly at the same rate as a decade ago, and every morning the fishermen go to the sea to return in the afternoon to the beach with the usual bountiful catches. The blue water and yellow sand inspire poetic mood and it seems as if you can exist forever
in this slow rhythm. And yet, on the bank a hut can be rented equipped with all necessary amenities, made in the image of the fishing lodges. At dawn you can go fishing, like local residents, and during the day engage in windsurfing or parasailing.

Do not miss your chance to go at least once for Ayurvedic massage in Marari Beach Resort. Pleasant sensations during the procedure with a mixture of aromatic oils and a sense of renewal after it is guaranteed.
Perhaps the solitary life of the beach will not last long; selected tourist industry is already here. So it is virtually the last chance to enjoy the local tranquillity.
The beach is located 90 kilometres from Kochi, which in turn is well connected with many regions. You can come here at any time of the year, but summers can be too hot.

PALOLEM
This picturesque crescent-shaped bay, almost on the edge of the South Goa is a perfect place where you can escape from the bustle of traditional tourist-filled resorts. It is better to stop in one of the huts on the shore, where there is everything for the full comfort of the Europeans.
Perhaps the single special tourist entertainment provided here is a trip by boat in order to watch the dolphins play. Also, it can be arranged with the local fishermen to visit one of the islands visible in the sea. The main occupation of the local audience is lying on the beach with a book.

By leaving on time for a walk to the left edge of the beach and by going down to the rocks, you can get to the picturesque island of butterflies, surrounded from all sides by toothed peaks.
In the evening you can sit in one of the small coastal restaurants: enjoy the freshest fish with beer and live music. And, of course, do not refuse to taste the local alcoholic drink Feni, made of coconut or cashew. However, when using it, caution should be observed. Intoxication is rapid and quite strong.
The only airport in Goa is situated 65 km from the beach. Go to Goa at any time, but so that not to suffer from crowds of tourists, it is better to avoid the period from December to February.
