Beer lovers around the world do not sit on the lawn with a bottle of beer in their hands; they prefer to spend time in some cozy spots- beer garden, huge places with thousands of guests, cafes in open air. Tradition of all of this comes from Germany, where thousands of such establishments are present for all those who enjoy spending some part of the day with those just like them. However, the idea got spread among the rest of the lovers of beer and today in other countries there are institutions like Melbourne, and in Beijing. Here are 10 of the most famous of them.

Hofbräuhaus, Munich, Germany

It feels like on several floors of the oldest largest brewery in Munich there’s an eternal “Oktoberfest”. Buxom girl in a frank and wide neckline pleated skirts are walking around the huge hall with giant liter Maas mugs. In the center of the room there’s a small orchestra of several men in leather trousers playing folk music in traditional Bavarian tunes. Not without its beer garden: some visitors even in winter sit outdoors on the spacious yard. In the menu reigns is pork: here they even make a salad from it. And be sure to try weisswurst – traditional white Munich sausages, which are usually submitted with the freshest pretzels, cookies and sweet mustard.

Café Vlissinghe, Bruges, Belgium

This pub which is tucked away in a quiet area of St Anne’s is the oldest in the city. It was discovered in 1515. Over the past centuries and today beer lovers drop in drink lager and play surrounded by ancient stone walls of the courtyard  one of the Italian games – bochi. And when the weather conditions do not give you the chance to do so, you can sit in the living fire in a cozy room, sipping some of the local beer specialties, for example, Tripel Karmeliet of caramelized malt or Framboise Belle Vue – wheat beer with raspberry. Food for beer offered is the most varied: from wrapped in bacon cheese, goat cheese with honey to simple pasta with cheese or sausage.

I bet some of you will agree that thee least expected to see the real German beer garden is in China. Nevertheless, Beijing has its own large outdoor beer places. It feels to be something from the rural fairs: beer and snacks are sold under a huge central tent, and around the tables is an ideal spot for the noisy young men of the town and foreign students to spend time. While choosing the food, you can travel around the world: Chinese dumplings and Korean barbecue, side by side here with American hot dogs. The brand beer Tsingtao and Yangjing are sold at a very affordable price – about a dollar for a big bottle.

Letna Beer Garden, Prague, Czech Republic

This pub located on the top of pub LETINSKIY park has a magnificent view of the Old Town and the majestic ancient bridges thrown over the Vltava. The situation is very simple: the famous Czech beer Gambrinus is bottled in simple plastic cups. Of food recommend try one of the delicious smelling appetizing pizzas with mushrooms, artichokes, olives and ham.

Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden, New York, USA

Bar in the fresh air of the Queens is a favorite place for yuppies and immigrants, reminiscing about their favorite European pubs. Here everyone has fun all year round: in the shade of trees on sunny days and under tent on the rain or even snow. This beer garden can be found when following the lovely smell coming from the forthcoming barbeque and authentic Czech dumplings and sausages. The Flask Tavern, London, UK

Café Sound Garden, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Sitting at the bar with live alternative music, darts and graffiti, you can admire the boats and barges moving slowly on the surface of the channel nearby. Beer at this place is much cheaper than in other Amsterdam restaurants (eg, 2,5 dollars per Poperings Hommelbier). Choice is simply huge: about 15 varieties of bottled beer and about 5 tapped. Meals are not made to be cook on the spot, they are mostly transported from neighboring establishments. So, you will try from the range of kebab lamb from the Turkish restaurant up to crisps from the French one.

Augustiner Bräu Kloster Mülln, Salzburg, Austria

What is the best thing about this place? It’s that you do not have to look for a free space, because it exists in the XVII century pub, which is designed to fit for fifteen thousand visitors. However, they are seldom less than a thousand, because in this beer garden they offer whole 9 varieties of superb beer Augustiner! To purchase snacks you simply need to stroll past the nearby grocery stores and select anything from traditional dishes such as smoked mackerel salad with horseradish or something more compatible to your taste.

The largest restaurant in Melbourne has decided to teach the locals  how to have a rest “in the Belgian” way- under an umbrella with a glass of beer in your hand. Dwarf Empire, China

In the southern part of the Celestial Empire in the town of Kunming there’s a hill open for the tourist. Right on the top of the hill there is a small and very strange park. Harmony Land, Japan

All the princesses, as well as all the Hello Kitty admirers of all ages should definitely visit this amazing Japanese theme park. The list of the possible activities is enormous: a walk in the castle of friendly cats,  a boat ride through the underground homes of her friends, soaring into the sky on the Ferris wheel, watching a movie with 3D-effect and of course, buying  tons of cute pink souvenirs. BonBon-Land, Denmark

Though this park, located in the southern part of Denmark, is named in honor of the popular candy inside of it there’s not to much that can awaken the appetite. The park is crowded with images of suffering from vomiting rats, urine and other ants are not the most beloved forms of living organisms. For the lovers of sweets in the park there are a few very naturalistic candies and thus it is appropriate to note their names of  “bird droppings” or “dead flies”.

However, unlike some of the disappointed parents, six years old children are just too much satisfied with such a “toilet” humor.

Dickens World, United Kingdom

Even if you’re not whiling away the winter evenings of leisurely reading the novels of Dickens, you may be interested to move to a couple of centuries ago and briefly immers in a world of hunger and poverty, to be among the beggars and fugitives. In 2007, the British opened a huge theme park, meticulously reproducing the atmosphere of the city in early XIX century.

The most popular attraction of the park is the boat trip based on the novel “Great Expectations”, while repeating Magwitch escape from the prison.

Love Land, South Korea

Situated on the southern coast of the island Haeju, this sex themed park was created in 2004 specifically to help the Korean newlyweds to explore the life of the married couples. This place was chosen not by chance: it was on this island where the locals love to spend their honeymoon. And now they are required to drive into the park to wander among the 140 sculptures and watch films about sex.

Ferrari World, UAE

The wonderful city of Abu Dhabi is hosting the world’s first theme park dedicated to the “Ferrari”. This is also the largest indoor park in the world: its territory is about 64 square kilometers. Inside there are 20 rides, race promoters and even the world’s fastest roller coaster, and the roof of this huge hall, of course, is decorated with the mark with a black horse on a yellow background,  largest in the world. It is assumed that the grand building will open up already in late 2010.

The entire space of the park is like a great theater, which unfolds scenes from biblical history. You can stroll through the streets of ancient Jerusalem,  join the disciples for  the Last Supper.

Dubailand, UAE

Emirates is known for thegrandiose projects. That’ also true about Dubailand – a huge, 278 square kilometer oasis consisting of several skyscrapers, modern resorts and the world’s largest water park with luxurious beaches and unique artificial reefs. In Falcon city of Wonders you can see a very realistic reconstruction of the Seven Wonders of the World (well, at least according to the creators of Dubailand) of the Egyptian pyramids and the gardens of Babylon to Pisa and the Eiffel tower.

Baobab Tree Bar & Wine Cellar, South Africa

In the hollow of a huge 6000-year-old baobab tree you can not only drink a cocktail, but also rest from the suffocating heat of the Limpopo province. Once this safe heaven was known only to the Bushmen, but now this ancient tree is the object of pilgrimage for all kind of tourists.  Finally the locals got the idea of setting a bar in the baobab and “decorate” it with benches and even a dartboard.

The Birdsville Hotel and Pub, Australia

At the edge of the Simpson Desert, among the sand dunes, which is the favorite spot for the mice, there is a hotel and a pub, which have become a cult destination for all travelers. The walls of this bar, remote from civilization, are decorated with old hats and posters of beer, the oldest of which dates from 1884. Most visitors of this building are the amateur of racings. They come to this village for the September competition. However, the pub is not empty also on other months: the airstrip is located nearby, so those who arrive to this point the first thing they do after the flight, of course, are going to have a glass or two of beer.

Cave Bar, Jordan

In 2000-year-old city of Petra it’s allowed to use only one single cave for commercial issues. And guess what?  Of course that’s a bar. The walls of the cave, adjacent to the Crowne Plaza Resort – is part of the ancient tombs, hollowed out many centuries ago by the Nabataeans. Tables are set as a large area outside and inside the cave, where the lights cast an ominous reddish light on the bloody walls of rough sandstone. Some tables are hidden in niches, which may be intended for individual graves.

What to order: local Jordanian red wine.

Floyd’s Pelican Bar, Jamaica

It appears that these huge palm leaves and trunks of the once fallen into the ocean of trees for a long time floated on the waves and then just caught in the pile sticking out of the ocean. That’s probably how the Pelican Bar, located about a mile from the southwest coast of Jamaica was built on. Part of its visitors that have no room to be fitted inside the bar drink, standing waist-deep in water. Do not want to get to the bar by swimming? A couple of local fishermen are always ready to take you there from the beach for a few dollars. And do not forget to immediately agree with them on the way back – you yourself will not be able to reach the shore.

Alux Restaurant & Lounge, Mexico

Just a short taxi ride from the beach Carmen in Mexico there is an underground bar, where you might need to go by a candlelight. Alux (pronounced “ah-LOOsh») – a whole system of caves, which are now established into a restaurant, bar, VIP-lounge. People are thinking that those who will be ready to spend here a lot of time will see the mythical “little people” who, according to the ancient Maya lived in these underground shelters from ancient times.

Absolut Icebar, Sweden

Ice Baris located in the Ice hotel in the small village Yukkasyarvi in northern Sweden – a seasonal restaurant, open only from mid-September to mid-April. Of course, all over the world regularly occur more and more ice bars, it is precisely this was the first to occur every year in the same place. It is traditionally constructed of huge blocks of ice, cut down from the nearby Torne River. Despite this cold wall, the temperature inside is kept around 23 degrees.

The Red Sea Star, Israel

In the Gulf near the town of Eilat is an underwater bar and restaurant. Faraday Bar, Antarctica

This unusual bar is truly at the edge of the Earth- on the Antarctic island Galindez in the complex of the Ukrainian Vernadian Research Station. Apparently, the local staff needed such a place so much that they used for its construction the timber, sent by the British Government for the new shipyard (before the station was British). This bar is available not only for Ukrainian meteorologists – this will quench the thirst of any of tourist who came to the extreme south of the participants of expedition cruises.

1.Atocha, Madrid, Spain

What is it? Mini-jungle or a botanical garden? This question is being asked by every traveler, who is having his first visit to the main railway station in Madrid. So it’s simply a station under a huge glass which makes it possible to stretch this green oasis of exotic plants and palm trees. So for some of the tourists it’s a great pleasure to have few cups of coffee waiting for a train in this tropical paradise.

2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai, India

The historic building, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List is now being used as the main railway station of the city of Mumbai. Originally it was called Victoria Terminus during the England ruling the country, and then was renamed in honor of national hero in India. The impressive dome, complex towers and arches make an unusual appearance from the outside, and the inside is built in the spirit of the Victorian era: the interior is decorated with wood carvings, framed by beautiful iron staircase railings. All of this reminds of the fairly-tale stories.

3. Union Station, Chicago, USA

Chicago Station is not just a place to change trains and killing time between the trains. The building, which is constructed in the style of the American Renaissance, with strict and noble classical contours is often being used as a ceremonial hall for various events. So do not be afraid if your train is delayed and you have to spend a little more time here, looking at the marble floors and brass fixtures.

4. Pickering Station, Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Not so long ago, this station in North Yorkshire has been restored, and now any traveler who stopped here can feel the charm of an old British railway station. You will see the interior of the last century with all of its antique equipments. If that is you will not be enough to move you back to the half-century back to the Yorkshire, in October it will host the annual “Military Weekend” and the locals will come to the station, dressed in the fashion of 1940’s.

5. Ushuaia Station, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

“Station on the edge of the world” – can be read at the poster placed in front of this delicate wooden structure. Railhead Ushuaia actually located on the outskirts of the national park of Tierra del Fuego is at the extreme end of the Latin American continent. It is understandable why this place seems to be the end of the world for the prisoners who were brought here to labor camps in the beginning of the XX century.

6. Choum Station, Mauritania

Probably, at the first glance Choum seems not the most pleasant place, where you will need to pass the time while waiting. A small hut, which is the actual railway station is surrounded by others alike – ugly huts which sell tea and various foods. But look around. Compensation for such conditions will be breathtaking vision of the surrounding desert. At the same time friendly locals are always ready to entertain the tired travelers with their local tricks.

7. Tanggula Mountain, Tibet

This is the most high-altitude railway station – it is at an altitude of 5 058 meters above the sea level. In such circumstances, it is hard to breathe for those who are not familiar with this kind of heights, and that’s why the Sino-Tibetan railway carries passengers in special cars equipped with systems of oxygen supply. After leaving the train, most likely you will not meet people: it is cold and desolate terrain not like other stations in the world. But if you’re not afraid of frost, visiting the Tanggula Mountain is first of all, for the incredibly beautiful lakes and glaciers.

8. Broken Hill, Australia

As if for some of you Australia is the best place for the airports, then you should visit its railways stations to change your opinion. Old railway station in New South Wales was built in 1888 to serve as a small mining town. Today it is used mostly by tourists who want to see the picturesque region, which is mostly popular due to its huge wall paintings: the two images seem to be very realistic as if destroying the wall and enter the building from the both sides.

9. Haydarpasa, Istanbul, Turkey

East Station of Istanbul is remarkable in the way that it is surrounded by water on three of its sides and built on almost 1100 wooden piles, reinforced at the bottom of the sea. The station was built as a gift to Sultan Abdulhamidu II from the German Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1908. The building resembles Teutonic castle and looks just gorgeous. Marble steps lead to the monumental facade with a large baroque clock. If you have enough time, be sure to look in a restaurant in the east wing and admire the unusual tile decoration.

10. Divisadero Barrancas, Mexico

Probably, no other station in the world opens such a wonderful view as does this small Hispanic Station. It is the hosting place for the people traveling through the deepest canyon on the planet. Yet none of the visitors of this station make any complains about the delay in train: usually you witness the opposite scene -when the tourists are ready to watch beautiful pictures on the edge of the canyon, at an altitude from which the head is spinning for long hours. And while waiting for a train, you can refresh  yourself eating cakes  immediately sold by the locals – and even choose some of them to bring home as  gifts.

There is no scientific method for measuring friendliness of the locals, as you can rely only on your subjective impressions and are mainly results of public surveys. Nevertheless, there are countries that are considered to be the most hospitable in the world due to specific characteristics. Thus, the most of hospitable people in the world are:

5. Georgians
According to the results of different ratings and surveys, Georgians are in the fifth place. According to Western travelers, this Caucasian country is worth of attention not only because of the stunning natural beauty of western motifs, unspoiled mountain springs and mineral waters, ancient churches, but also with cheerful and friendly locals who believe that the God is who sends guests. It is not surprising that every visitor feels like a real member  in a Georgian house. While enjoying your position, you might be careful not to offend gracious hosts. For example, one of the biggest insults in Georgia is when you refuse to drink the wine offered. However, the recent actions of Georgian politicians slightly spoiled the image of Georgian hospitality, but well the politics is not a game of sample locals.

4. Iranians
Iran thinks that its most precious thing is its people. Lonely Planet calls these people “warm” and “interesting”, while the famous journalist Will Hyde that cooperates with Times, returning from a trip to Iran, wrote that the residents of this state are the most friendly people on the planet.  This is something new to know as the comment was made by a public opinion influencing person. As to the data always smiling Iranians are sincere and simple. They are always ready to help travelers by offering them a cup of tea, paying for their lunch or inviting them for dinner, and even inviting to participate in the festivities: if you never visited  Iran, then you cannot even assume, how hot local dancing can be!

3. Canadians
According to a study conducted by Nation Brand Index in 2008, which was held among 20 thousand adult citizens of 20 countries, Canada was chosen by the  respondents to be the friendliest country from the 50 states offered in the survey. This scientific approach to selecting the most hospitable nation may seem a bit formal and not trust-worthy, but, in fact, Canadians deserve such a title. Lonely Planet was even surprised at how people living in a harsh northern climate, can be so pleasant and sociable as most of the time the conditioning goes the opposite way. After all, existing in cold countries is much more difficult, and therefore friendly, despite the cold, citizens of the maple leaf, of course, deserve this award.

2. Australians
A friendly “no worries” and a big smile are guaranteed to everyone who will be in Australia for even a short stay. Australians are very open and friendly people, and their positive thinking, combined with the friendliness allows any traveler that happened to be in that remote country, to feel as at home. As the tourists who have been to Australia mention, it is impossible for anyone to feel lonely, traveling across the Green continent: the locals are always ready to share with you a pint of beer or a cup of latte. This means that the travelling around this smallest continent will never get boring and after all you’ll have a lot of impressions to share with everybody.

1. The Irish
In the publication of the Bluelist 2008 Lonely Planet have recognized the Irish as the most friendly nation in the world. It makes little sense to discuss if the Irish are more or less welcoming than Canadians or Iranians are Irish are just different. The truth is that the citizens of the country of St. Patrick are really very nice and kind. Despite the fact that Irish are mistakenly described as those who always complain about the weather, the economic difficulties and high prices , they remain good-natured and honest people, always ready to help any tourist. And therefore, despite the inhospitable climate the pleasant nature of the inhabitants of Ireland makes this country one of the best places to travel.

Sirocco
Bangkok, Thailand
There is no single night in Bangkok that passes by without full house at the famous bar-restaurant called Sirocco. One of the most prestigious and expensive bars in the capital of Thailand is located on the 64th floor of State Tower skyscraper. The hotel that can truly be called a skyscraper was built originally as a complex of luxury apartments for long stay guests earlier.

Sirocco is open for its visitors not only at night, so those who wish to dine in a picturesque place will hardly find a better alternative. Lunch or dinner at Sirocco can cost a pretty penny, but at the entrance you will have to pass the dress code, so you might choose an appropriate attire to be able to get in.

But it’s worth to visit this place at least once to go up to the top of the glass bar, to touch the sky and breathe the warm air of Asia. These are the memories that last a lifetime for sure.

The Penthouse
Madrid, Spain

The luxury hotel Me by Melia, which is considered to be the pride of Madrid is located in the heart of the city. The Me by Melia, in turn, has a separate “zest” – bar called The Penthouse, located on the roof became a favorite place for all tourists. Climbing up to the bar, you can see all the beauty of central Madrid. It seems impossible to think of a better location to see the area of Santa Ana.

The bar owner, Ranger Gerber, is a famous entrepreneur in the area of nightlife and the husband of Cindy Crawford. Exclusively star guests are visiting the bar. The bar is, of course, working until three o’clock in the morning, but getting there after midnight is an extremely difficult task to do. Luna Bar is one of the most interesting bars of this famous city, located on the roof of a skyscraper, with views of the twin towers and the night lights of Kuala Lumpur. The Rooftop Bar, located at the 16th floor of Curtin House was named as one of the best one. Its doors are open to all visitors daily  starting from 8pm.
