This summer it is impossible to attract tourists to voyages: economic recession and horrors of the swine flu epidemic closed the boarders more reliably than the custom services and visa barriers. And no artless marketing methods from the standard arsenal of tourism industry can help to attract the potential traveler from his cozy apartment. Even the”heavy artillery” doesn’t work in the way of reducing prices for hotels for 30-40%, the cancellation of visa tax and half a year Schengen. Anyway, holiday-makers choose not expensive local trips or they stay home.
But, as it turned out, even at the time of economic recession travelers are not wishful for saving, but they are wishful for a wonder, even a small one. This has become rather clear for the authorities of the sleepy, provincial Israel town Kiryat Yam, the name of which is translated into English like “Sea town”, and it got filled with tourists at once.
All that the authorities needed was to organize a small sensation with the statements of the eyewitnesses who saw mermaids in the warm waters of Mediterranean Sea, and to promise a million dollars to the person who will give irrefutable evidences of existence of these mystic creatures in the town bay.
And here is the result – the coasts of the town are full of curious people, who want to see the mystic creatures with their own eyes, and if they are lucky, to be the first to take a photo of the scaly tail and chest of the sea habitat, and to get the promised award. By the way, the authorities of the town will hardly take the photos as a proof of existence of the mystic form of life; otherwise the masters of Photoshop would have already filled the local administration with the photos of the Neptune’s daughters in different poses. So, there is just one variant is left to earn a million – to represent a living mermaid to the authorities. And the local fishermen make use of it in full: having left the traditional trade, they have hot discussions with tourists about the ways to fish the naiad in a more reliable and humane way – with a net, minnow or dynamite, and, certainly, they rent their boats and tackles.
Not only the local fishermen will earn on the interest to mermaids, but also the restaurants which have already included into the menu the cocktail “naiad”, and also the local shops that bought huge numbers of echo lots, and the souvenir sellers, and of course the owners of local hotels. So, if it happens, that the local Laguna will be full of mermaids and the local administration will have to pay, the town will not lose, anyway.
By the way, the formula of success was invented long before the head of the administration of the town Kiryat Yam was born. While reading the above mentioned you may remember the legend about the Loch Ness monster, whom the Scottish have been successfully exploited for already eight decades. And the interest to the elusive “Nessie” does not reduce with the time, new photos of the monster constantly appear, as well as evidences of the drunken eyewitnesses, and on the shore bones of plesiosaurs are found. And scheduled scientific expedition rushes to the lake and feels ashamed to get back without the Loch Ness animal, and they have to invent new evidences of the existence of the exclusive dinosaur in the lake. And the neighboring residents gradually turn from poor shepherd into wealthy hoteliers. Even the bookmaker agency William Hill managed to earn on “Nessie”, promising one million pounds to the person who will represent evidences of existence of the famous Loch Ness monster. They took stakes 250 to 1 that this would happen at least until the end of the year 2007.
The domestic tourism business is not so willing to take the experience of their foreign colleagues in attracting tourists by means of different mystic creatures. Only the tourist companies in Kemerovo can be marked, which succeeds in exploiting the image of the snowman. Here you can have a tour on the day off “in the trace of yeti”, which has become a key element of the company in improving resting in this region of Siberia. Since the beginning of the summer the snowman helped to attract here about 15 thousand tourists. It is 10% more than the same index of 2008.
The tour expects a group consisting of five people. It starts from the crossing by the land rover to Azassk cave, where, according to the local administration, hunters saw two meter manlike creatures covered with hair. After the supposed house of the snowman was examined tourists raft by boats to the Mednaya rock. There fishing is organized, bathing, dinner in the conditions of field, and barbeques at the evening fire.
The authorities of Perm region of Russia do not remain behind; they actively develop the center of the urological tourism territory of annomal Moleb zone in the Kisherts region, 200 km from Perm. Moleb triangle became famous as a unique nature phenomenon in 80-90s of the previous century, when the Latvian newspaper “Soviet Youth” published a series of reports about the anomal zone. The shining objects in the sky, the strangely trampled grass, knocked down clocks and trees, like sawn down with a petrol saw at the height of 2-3 meters – at that time the Latvian newspaper with the articles about the local wanders was read and reread by the residents of all the Soviet Union, and crowds of tourists rushed to the border of Sverdlovsk and Perm regions in order to meet with the aliens.
The fame of the Perm anomal zone does not reduce so far, but the economic crisis has a negative influence on the construction of tourist game reserve, in the construction of which it was initially supposed to invest 10-15 million rubles, and it was to be compensated in 4-5 years. At this moment the construction is stopped.
