Scientists have been threatening the mankind for a long time already with the global cataclysms connected with the climate change. They promise either an ice age or a flood, which will wash the civilization away from the Earth. It looks like the last trend on which almost all the researchers agreed, is the warming and, judging by the latest data, it threatens not our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, it threatens directly us.
The speed of the snow melting in the Antarctica grows every decade, Arctic throws off the ice, and the glaciers of Greenland sweepingly thaw. Except for the opening new possibilities on the new lands and the political opposition to the hypothetical deposits and resources what else does the change of a climate promise to holiday-makers and tourists? The consulting company Xola Consulting has published a forecast on how the global warming of the climate will affect the world tourist industry.
Let’s first look at Europe. Its map will greatly change with the increasing of level of the World Ocean. The most part of the countries which fought with floods for centuries will go under the water. First of all the changes will concern Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the northern part of Italy. London, Gent, Bruges, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Venice – these cities will die and become reachable only by boats at first, but then only for divers.
Besides the countries and the districts which are in natural lowlands, the places which are popular with tourists, like the mounting skiing resorts, will be in danger, too. The Alpine glaciers and attractive lines of many modern mounting skiing resorts, where hundreds of thousands European and Asian inhabitants go to rest, to spend the holidays or days off, going in for sports, are gradually disappearing. The mountain skiing season becomes shorter, winters full of snow come to Europe later, and leave earlier. It is enough to remember that there was not a “white” Christmas in Europe for a long time, and that the mountain-skiing news sites dazzled with announcements about the use of snow guns at the beginning of the season. Of course, it is possible to refer to the old peoples’ muttering that the grass was greener and the snow was colder in the old times, however, the researches of the scientists pass a terrible sentence – the snow in the Alps is less and less, the glaciers melt and will completely disappear during the period from 2030 to 2050. Accordingly, the winter mountain sports centers will move to the northern areas of Europe and towards Eurasia, where the climate remains continental and abrupt continental.
It is funny, but the Russian resorts can only win from the climate change. However, it is not worth thinking that Sochi will remain the mountain-skiing centre. The climate of this Russian region and of all northern Black Sea coast becomes similar to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The latter fact will only contribute to the charm of the place. The question is whether the service can be equal to that of the Turkish or Egyptian
one. The climate will soften on the Baltic coast, which will become more similar to a resort zone with a warm climate; therefore the season here becomes longer. But we should not forget about the rising of the World ocean level, which will not leave the Baltic out ether. A part of territories will unfortunately be flooded, and this misfortune can also concern St. Petersburg.
Siberia and the Far East, according to the unfavorable forecasts of climatologists and soil scientists, most likely, will be inaccessible to the inhabitants of the European region as the permafrost will start to melt actively. According to the forecasts, the communication between the Central, Siberian, and Far East regions will discontinue and the ones who will enjoy their vacations on the resorts of the former Soviet Union will be our Asian friends. Not only they will take vacations there but probably live there, too.
Bob Henson, the author of the “Reference book on global warming” in the interview to CNN named 5 tourist places of interest in the world, which one should hasten to see while they are not destroyed by global warming. Alas, the Big Barrier reef and a lot of coral islands of the Pacific and Indian oceans will suffer the same distressing fate. Islands will be flooded, and corals will die, since besides the rise of the ocean’s level, its temperature will rise too. Corals maintain strictly defined maximal temperatures and even now the water keeps almost at the top of the acceptable level. Ecologists are alarmed – many kinds of corals die already today.
Many North American resorts like New Orleans will appear in the flooding zone, and the ones which will not be flooded, will be ruined by the heat. The Caribbean region will also suffer from flooding and climate change – magnificent forests on islands will be replaced by plants, which do not require as much water. As a result of these cataclysms the resort zone will move to the north and will attract more tourists to Canada, making it the new “Mecca” of the tourism in the Western hemisphere.
Global warming will also have a bad impact on the coniferous woods of the American national parks. Hordes of insects, whose population is currently regulated by the cold winters, having bred, will simply eat the biggest part of the wood cover, and the states would have to spend enourmous means for pest control.
And at last, the tropical forests of Amazon, which had already suffered from the uncontrolled felling, will appear on the verge of disappearance. Destruction of forests does not contribute solely to the erosion of soils, but also results in the humidity reduction in the air. The latter tendency will only amplify because of the mid-annual temperature increase and that will lead to the gradual extinction of the unique tropical plants, which are used to a humid climate.
i like much to share with people the fruit of natural area as well as the major sourcesaffect the natural area such as wilderness area
